His community-based, aggressive but nonviolent tactics gained the farm workers' struggle nationwide support. He grew up as Mexican American farm worker, who later fought for worker’s rights, and has become the best-known Mexican American civil rights activist. Chávez encouraged us to embrace so that we can overcome the injustices and inequalities our communities face.Ĭhávez was a labor leader and civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association and later the United Farm Workers (UFW) union.
